Speaker:- Just real quick, because I don't wanna take
Speaker:any more time away from our guest speaker.
Speaker:If you are new to Springhouse,
Speaker:we are going to have a newcomer's lunch
Speaker:in two Sundays from now.
Speaker:So that would be not next Sunday,
Speaker:but the next Sunday, right?
Speaker:April 28th, April 28th, right following this gathering,
Speaker:we're gonna provide a lunch for you.
Speaker:Our pastoral staff is gonna be available,
Speaker:and we just wanna meet you and tell you about Springhouse.
Speaker:So that's going to be on April 28th,
Speaker:make plans to attend that if you are new here
Speaker:to Springhouse, okay?
Speaker:Guys, we have a special guest speaker with us.
Speaker:He has been with us before.
Speaker:He has an on-time word this morning.
Speaker:Would you guys please stand to your feet
Speaker:and welcome Pastor Jonathan Evans.
Speaker:(audience applauding)
Speaker:- Good morning. - Good morning.
Speaker:- Y'all doing all right? - Yeah.
Speaker:- Good, good to be here once again.
Speaker:It's been several years since I've been here,
Speaker:but it's good to see familiar faces
Speaker:and be back in the house.
Speaker:Before I get started jumping into God's word,
Speaker:I have my better half here with me.
Speaker:And so, Kanika, stand up, stand up, say hello to everyone.
Speaker:(audience applauding)
Speaker:As you can tell, I out-kicked my coverage on that one.
Speaker:I out-kicked my coverage on that one.
Speaker:But I'm excited to have the opportunity to share.
Speaker:She's here with me, so she gets a good little break
Speaker:from our five children.
Speaker:She's a stay-at-home mom as well,
Speaker:formerly a physical therapist,
Speaker:but she stays at home and homeschools.
Speaker:(audience applauding)
Speaker:So she's got it going on.
Speaker:My oldest daughter's name is Kelsey.
Speaker:She's 15 years old.
Speaker:She's the artist in the house.
Speaker:She loves to sing, color, dance, draw, anything,
Speaker:but you know, formal learning.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:And then we have Jonathan II.
Speaker:His name is J2, just to throw a little swag on it.
Speaker:But J2 is my intellectual.
Speaker:He's the one who asked the question why,
Speaker:which gets the common parental response,
Speaker:because I said so, boy.
Speaker:I ain't got time to be explaining everything to you.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:And so that's my boy J2.
Speaker:And then I have, after that, Camden.
Speaker:Camden is my 10-year-old.
Speaker:We call him Spider Cam, because he climbs on everything.
Speaker:He's not happy unless he's trying to beat up his brother,
Speaker:wrestle his dad, or swinging from the chandelier
Speaker:in our kitchen.
Speaker:And so that's Camden.
Speaker:Then I have Kyler.
Speaker:Kyler is my eight-year-old daughter,
Speaker:and she is the athlete of the family.
Speaker:Okay, she is fast now.
Speaker:At seven years old, her first quarter time
Speaker:was a minute and 20 seconds.
Speaker:And so she was flying around that track
Speaker:as a seven-year-old, and so I said,
Speaker:it was not for me, that's your mom.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:And then I have Jade Winter, who's our five-year-old.
Speaker:And she just basically has all of her siblings jealous,
Speaker:because she's the baby, that means she gets
Speaker:whatever she wants.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:Is there any babies in the house?
Speaker:Is there any babies in the house?
Speaker:Isn't that the best?
Speaker:It's the best position.
Speaker:You got parents taking care of you,
Speaker:siblings taking care of you, you know what I mean?
Speaker:Your parents are already tired, they're like, whatever,
Speaker:just do whatever.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:You know what I mean?
Speaker:So it's a great position.
Speaker:So I'm excited to introduce my family to you this morning.
Speaker:Y'all ready for the word?
Speaker:- Yeah. - Yeah.
Speaker:- Let's jump in.
Speaker:Heavenly Father, we love you and honor you.
Speaker:If you don't do anything else, you've already done enough
Speaker:by sending your son, Jesus Christ,
Speaker:to die on the cross for our sins.
Speaker:Help us to believe in it and walk in it.
Speaker:We love you and give you the glory as you teach us today.
Speaker:Help us to remember the words,
Speaker:and we remember the words by applying the words,
Speaker:so that it's not like a seed that falls amongst the thorns
Speaker:that just gets choked out.
Speaker:We love you and we honor you today.
Speaker:In Jesus' name, amen.
Speaker:I'm gonna read one thematic verse for you,
Speaker:and that verse comes from Exodus 1.22.
Speaker:I want you to key in today because you'll learn
Speaker:some principles that I really believe
Speaker:can change your life.
Speaker:It has mine from this story.
Speaker:So Exodus 1.22, so Bibles, Bible apps, whatever,
Speaker:I want you to be able to see this.
Speaker:Exodus 1.22, it simply says this.
Speaker:Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying,
Speaker:"Every son who is born, you ought to cast into the Nile.
Speaker:"Every daughter you ought to keep alive."
Speaker:One more time, then Pharaoh commanded all his people,
Speaker:saying, "Every son who is born,
Speaker:"you ought to cast into the Nile,
Speaker:"and every daughter you ought to keep alive."
Speaker:Today I wanna talk to you from the topic surviving Pharaoh.
Speaker:Surviving Pharaoh.
Speaker:Here is a commander in chief, if you will,
Speaker:who has put out an edict in the land.
Speaker:An edict is an official order by someone in power.
Speaker:Basically, he said, y'all, this what we finna do.
Speaker:And everybody has to prepare to do what he says to do,
Speaker:and he has a evil edict, an afflicting edict,
Speaker:against the Hebrew people.
Speaker:He said, "Every Hebrew boy that is born,
Speaker:"I want you to throw him into the Nile.
Speaker:"I want you to take him out.
Speaker:"Every daughter, I want you to keep alive."
Speaker:What he's doing here is he's a little insecure.
Speaker:The enemy is a little afraid,
Speaker:because he does not want the advancement of God's kingdom.
Speaker:He's in the business of advancing his own kingdom.
Speaker:And one of the things I want you to notice
Speaker:is that while the enemy is coming after everyone,
Speaker:he does have a specific hit out on men.
Speaker:He is not interested in godly men,
Speaker:godly fathers, godly husbands, godly city council,
Speaker:godly men in the church,
Speaker:godly men leading their community.
Speaker:He's not interested in godly men
Speaker:stepping up and stepping out.
Speaker:He's not interested in none of that.
Speaker:And so what he wants to do is put out an edict
Speaker:to take out the men, because in society at large,
Speaker:in all of history, there has never been a society
Speaker:in all of history that has ever survived without strong men.
Speaker:So if you can take them out,
Speaker:then you can take out a culture.
Speaker:Has nothing to do with the significance of women,
Speaker:because here, he's talking about a military threat.
Speaker:And so he's saying, I need to multiply,
Speaker:and the Hebrew people are multiplying at a faster rate,
Speaker:and that makes me insecure.
Speaker:Don't you know that the enemy is insecure
Speaker:when the Church of Jesus Christ begins to multiply?
Speaker:That's not something that he's interested in.
Speaker:And in this context, he's speaking
Speaker:from a military standpoint,
Speaker:so he's really specifically thinking about taking out men,
Speaker:because he's thinking in terms of war.
Speaker:Okay, and so what he says in Exodus 1, 9,
Speaker:he says, "He said to the people, behold,
Speaker:the people of the sons of Israel are more mightier than we.
Speaker:Come, let us deal wisely with them,
Speaker:or else they will multiply in the event of war."
Speaker:Okay, or else they will come against us,
Speaker:multiply and come against us in the event of war.
Speaker:So the enemy here is thinking in war terms,
Speaker:so he comes up with this edict,
Speaker:let's go ahead and get rid of these boys
Speaker:before they grow up.
Speaker:I wanna get the boys before they become men.
Speaker:Okay, so you need to understand this, mothers,
Speaker:that your sons, they don't fly in on storks.
Speaker:This ain't Dumbo.
Speaker:They come out of your wombs,
Speaker:and you need to understand
Speaker:that when it comes to spiritual warfare,
Speaker:when it comes to war, the enemy is trying to take men out.
Speaker:So if you've ever said to yourself,
Speaker:boy, it sure is hard to find a good man,
Speaker:understand that what you see,
Speaker:if all you see is what you see,
Speaker:you do not see all there is to be seen.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:Okay, the enemy has a hit out on everyone,
Speaker:but he's got his eye on men
Speaker:because he knows what happens when strong men stand up
Speaker:and say, "For me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
Speaker:Okay, he already knows that,
Speaker:and I need you to understand what he's saying is,
Speaker:I don't, I'm really not interested,
Speaker:and I'm really afraid because the Hebrew people,
Speaker:God's people, are multiplying.
Speaker:That's not what I'm interested in.
Speaker:Understand, from the beginning,
Speaker:the enemy is just an imitator of God.
Speaker:God said from the beginning,
Speaker:be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
Speaker:God's goal is the visible manifestation
Speaker:of his invisible self all over the earth, okay?
Speaker:And so that's his goal.
Speaker:When Noah docks the ark in Genesis 9,
Speaker:he gives them the same command he gave Adam and Eve,
Speaker:be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
Speaker:He tells the disciples the same concept in Matthew 28.
Speaker:Go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations.
Speaker:Be fruitful and multiply and make replicas of who I am.
Speaker:The enemy is insecure with more godly people
Speaker:coming into the fold because he wants to build his kingdom,
Speaker:and not only does he want to build his kingdom
Speaker:through multiplication, he wants to build his kingdom
Speaker:and is so bold to try to use God's people to do it.
Speaker:Here, he's trying to enslave God's people
Speaker:to build his kingdom.
Speaker:He doesn't mind you going to church.
Speaker:He just minds you being the church.
Speaker:He minds the multiple,
Speaker:he don't mind you sitting in a worship service.
Speaker:He just doesn't want you to break huddle
Speaker:from the worship service.
Speaker:As a chaplain of the Dallas Cowboys,
Speaker:I know I'm a Dallas Cowboy,
Speaker:I know there's Green Bay people in here,
Speaker:especially your pastor.
Speaker:Your pastor is a Green Bay guy.
Speaker:I ain't worried about none of that.
Speaker:I'm up here, I'm talking.
Speaker:As a chaplain of the Dallas Cowboys,
Speaker:100,000 people don't come to AT&T Stadium or Texas Stadium
Speaker:to watch 11 men bend over
Speaker:and have a private conversation in the huddle.
Speaker:That's not what they come for.
Speaker:They don't mind the huddle,
Speaker:but they want to know what difference the huddle makes.
Speaker:They want to know having now huddled, can you now score?
Speaker:What are you going to do about 11 other men
Speaker:on the other side of the ball daring you to go public
Speaker:with that private conversation?
Speaker:That's why people come in.
Speaker:You got to understand this is a huddle,
Speaker:but the kingdom of God wants to know
Speaker:what difference the huddle makes.
Speaker:They want to know having now huddled, can you now score?
Speaker:What are you going to do about Pharaoh
Speaker:outside of these buildings daring you to go public
Speaker:with this private conversation?
Speaker:Pharaoh is totally okay with this private conversation,
Speaker:but once the church of Jesus Christ begins to break huddle,
Speaker:begins to multiply, begins to teach their children,
Speaker:have healthy families, begin to multiply
Speaker:and infiltrate the culture, then all of a sudden,
Speaker:he becomes insecure and has a plan of attack.
Speaker:So you need to understand that that's what he's doing here
Speaker:is that in this context, he is insecure.
Speaker:Do you know the devil's insecure?
Speaker:He does not like when God's people do more than be churchy.
Speaker:We're good at being churchy,
Speaker:but he don't like it when we start multiplying.
Speaker:And so he comes up with an initial plan.
Speaker:His plan is found in Exodus 1, verse 11.
Speaker:He says, "So they appointed taskmasters over them
Speaker:to afflict them with hard labor,
Speaker:and they built for Pharaoh his cities and ramses
Speaker:and all of those different things."
Speaker:So his plan was, I'm going to make life so hard on them
Speaker:that it will prevent them from being encouraged enough
Speaker:to multiply.
Speaker:So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna appoint taskmasters
Speaker:to just give them a hard time and make life hard on them.
Speaker:I need you to understand that the enemy uses affliction
Speaker:to make things hard on you and to make you stop.
Speaker:But God will allow you to be afflicted
Speaker:to actually produce in you something that he can use
Speaker:for his purpose, he has in you.
Speaker:So while the enemy is using affliction to stop them,
Speaker:God is allowing affliction to take them.
Speaker:Okay, so I need you to understand that.
Speaker:But what the enemy does is he says,
Speaker:"I'm going to make things so hard on them
Speaker:that they don't want to continue in the faith."
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:If you're going through affliction,
Speaker:you need to think of it differently.
Speaker:Affliction means that God has a purpose.
Speaker:My coach used to tell me,
Speaker:"If I don't yell at you and I'm quiet,
Speaker:that's when you need to be worried.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:If I'm yelling at you, it's because I see something in you
Speaker:that I think can grow and become better
Speaker:and be useful for the team.
Speaker:But if I'm quiet, then I don't really think
Speaker:that you're that good.
Speaker:I don't think that you're usable."
Speaker:In other words, when things are loud in your life
Speaker:and there's affliction in your life,
Speaker:it's because the enemy knows
Speaker:that God has something major for your life.
Speaker:And you cannot build a skyscraper
Speaker:on the foundation of a chicken coop.
Speaker:Anytime you see a skyscraper in downtown Nashville,
Speaker:the higher they go up is evidence
Speaker:of how low they had to dig down.
Speaker:God will allow something to get dug down in your life
Speaker:and afflictions and hard times in your life,
Speaker:but that is evidence that the enemy is insecure
Speaker:of the skyscraper that God wants to put on top of it.
Speaker:And so you need to understand that even in your affliction,
Speaker:that's what the Bible says in the book of James,
Speaker:consider it joy when you go through various trials
Speaker:and affliction because I am producing something in you.
Speaker:Okay, so the Christian sees affliction differently
Speaker:than the non-Christian sees affliction.
Speaker:We see affliction as, "Oh, you afflict,
Speaker:you think so highly of me.
Speaker:I'm glad you think about me the way you are
Speaker:because I'm going through this affliction
Speaker:because there's something that God must be doing."
Speaker:And so you need to understand 'cause the people of God,
Speaker:this is what Pharaoh found out.
Speaker:It says in verse 11, so he appointed taskmasters.
Speaker:In verse 12, he said, "But the more they afflicted them,
Speaker:the more they multiplied."
Speaker:Because God knows when there's affliction,
Speaker:all of a sudden the people of God are more dependent on God.
Speaker:When there's affliction, all of a sudden
Speaker:they're praying again.
Speaker:When there's affliction, all of a sudden the church is full.
Speaker:When there's affliction, all of a sudden
Speaker:they're linking arms.
Speaker:God will allow the affliction because in affliction,
Speaker:actually the church begins to multiply.
Speaker:So the enemy was like, "Well, that didn't work."
Speaker:Pharaoh said, "That plan wasn't a good plan.
Speaker:That actually went against what I'm trying to do."
Speaker:They are multiplying even the more with the affliction.
Speaker:So he has to come up with a new plan.
Speaker:And the new plan is found in Exodus 1.15.
Speaker:Y'all still following along or am I going too fast?
Speaker:Y'all still with me? Okay, good.
Speaker:Gotta stay with it now.
Speaker:Exodus 1.15, it says, "Then the king of Egypt
Speaker:spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one who was named Shiphrah
Speaker:and the other named Puah.
Speaker:And he said, 'When you are helping the Hebrew women
Speaker:to give birth and sieve them upon the birth stool,
Speaker:if it is a son, you shall put him to death.
Speaker:And if it is a daughter, then you shall let her live.'"
Speaker:Okay, so the affliction didn't work.
Speaker:So do you know what Pharaoh just said?
Speaker:Okay, this dude is so slick and so sly
Speaker:that he went to the Hebrew midwives,
Speaker:not the Egyptian midwives.
Speaker:He didn't go to his people.
Speaker:He went to the Hebrew midwives and said,
Speaker:"Let me holla at you for a minute.
Speaker:Whenever there's a Hebrew woman who's giving birth,
Speaker:if it is a son, Hebrew midwives,
Speaker:I need you to put the Hebrew boys to death.
Speaker:What does a daughter let her live?"
Speaker:Okay, let me say that again.
Speaker:Y'all didn't get that.
Speaker:Hebrew midwives, I need you to go kill the Hebrew boys.
Speaker:Well, that's bold.
Speaker:Hebrew midwives, I need you to go kill your Hebrew boys.
Speaker:Okay, y'all still ain't.
Speaker:Springhouse, y'all ain't.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:Pastor Kevin, I got to tell them in a more modern way.
Speaker:The enemy went to God's women
Speaker:and tell them to go kill God's men.
Speaker:So the enemy must know the power, the influence, the ability.
Speaker:He must know that there is enough influence,
Speaker:power, and ability in women
Speaker:that if he can distort them,
Speaker:he can take out a culture of men.
Speaker:(congregation laughs)
Speaker:Okay, there's not enough
Speaker:of people talking about the power of women.
Speaker:But if the enemy knows it, certainly we should know it.
Speaker:Because from the beginning, Eve, let me holler at you.
Speaker:He skipped at him.
Speaker:He said, "Eve, let me holler at you.
Speaker:I'm going to use your influence."
Speaker:Offered his brother this fruit.
Speaker:He going to eat it if it come from you.
Speaker:(congregation laughs)
Speaker:Delilah, just cut his hair.
Speaker:It's his hair.
Speaker:Jezebel, kill the prophets.
Speaker:Herodias, y'all know who Herodias is?
Speaker:Y'all like, "Herodias, who is that?"
Speaker:Herodias in Matthew 14 got her daughter
Speaker:to go get the head of John the Baptist.
Speaker:Through scripture, if you look through it,
Speaker:the enemy knows he can use the power and influence of women
Speaker:to go take out men in God's plan.
Speaker:But also the opposite is true.
Speaker:That's why Proverbs 14, one says,
Speaker:"A wise woman builds her house,
Speaker:but a foolish one tears it down with her bare hands."
Speaker:Which means and suggests that a woman has the power
Speaker:to build a house, she also has the power
Speaker:to tear a house down.
Speaker:Women possess that power and the enemy knows it,
Speaker:but guess what?
Speaker:God knows it too.
Speaker:That's why he would call Rahab to hide the spies
Speaker:and save her families while the walls are crumbling down.
Speaker:That's why he would call Ruth and tell her,
Speaker:"Don't go back to the past.
Speaker:It's time to go to the future and go with Naomi."
Speaker:And she meets a man named Boaz, has a son named Obed.
Speaker:Obed has a son named Jesse.
Speaker:Jesse has a son named David
Speaker:and puts her in the lineage of Jesus Christ.
Speaker:That's why he would call Priscilla.
Speaker:I need you to teach Apollos the word appropriately
Speaker:so that he can teach the gospel
Speaker:so that we can continue to multiply.
Speaker:That's why he would call Phoebe.
Speaker:Paul would send Phoebe out and tell the church of Rome
Speaker:to listen to her because she's able to help carry out
Speaker:the advancement of God's kingdom.
Speaker:There are women who were used for destruction,
Speaker:but there were also women who were used for building up.
Speaker:So I'm just letting you know, Springhouse Church ladies,
Speaker:that you have the power for good or the power for bad
Speaker:and because we're the church of Jesus Christ,
Speaker:you can build the house.
Speaker:What am I telling you?
Speaker:I'm telling you, if you've ever heard the impact
Speaker:or ministry of Pastor Kevin,
Speaker:it's because you have his wife's fingerprint all over you.
Speaker:I'm telling you, if you've ever heard the ministry
Speaker:of Jonathan Evans, it's because you have
Speaker:Kenneka's fingerprint all over you.
Speaker:If you've ever heard the ministry of Dr. Tony Evans,
Speaker:it's because you have the fingerprint
Speaker:of Lois Evans all over you.
Speaker:When the enemy came into the house,
Speaker:they told the enemy, no, I'm gonna lift him up,
Speaker:not tear him down.
Speaker:And so I need you to understand that the enemy
Speaker:wants to use your experiences, your emotions,
Speaker:your past, your abilities, and he wants you to use it
Speaker:to tear down instead of build up
Speaker:because he knows you possess that power.
Speaker:I need you to understand that there would be
Speaker:no sermons on Moses if it wasn't for two ladies
Speaker:you've never heard of, Shiphrah and Puah.
Speaker:There would be no sermons on Moses.
Speaker:It's because they were able to look at the enemy
Speaker:and say, we are not doing that.
Speaker:I know the pressure and you,
Speaker:Pharaoh is the most powerful man on the earth right now.
Speaker:He can, this is a very lucrative deal.
Speaker:You understand, he can write big checks,
Speaker:gold and silver, for Shiphrah and Puah
Speaker:to carry out his plan.
Speaker:But they thought it is not good for me to take something
Speaker:that is momentary lucrative that will have
Speaker:our whole culture in debt.
Speaker:I need you to understand that you can do something
Speaker:that's in the moment that's emotionally lucrative
Speaker:that can put your whole heritage in debt
Speaker:because the enemy wants to use the power
Speaker:to tear things down instead of build things up.
Speaker:And fortunately, fortunately for the Scriptures advancement,
Speaker:because Moses is kind of a big deal.
Speaker:Fortunately for the Scriptures advancement,
Speaker:these ladies got influenced by the enemy
Speaker:and looked at Pharaoh and said,
Speaker:modern, we ain't doing that.
Speaker:I mean, I understand what you can do
Speaker:and how much you can pay and how this may,
Speaker:but we just ain't doing that.
Speaker:We have to, we're gonna have to find another way.
Speaker:And so Pharaoh's trying to get ladies to work for him
Speaker:did not work, but Pharaoh would not quit.
Speaker:It says in Exodus 1 22, then, this is back
Speaker:to our original passage that I read at the beginning.
Speaker:Then Pharaoh commanded all his people saying,
Speaker:every son who is born, you ought to cast into the Nile
Speaker:and every daughter you ought to keep alive.
Speaker:So he's trying again.
Speaker:So I'm going back to our original verse,
Speaker:but you need to know that Pharaoh had already tried,
Speaker:this is his third try.
Speaker:Okay, affliction God's people didn't work.
Speaker:Trying to get the ladies to tear it down didn't work.
Speaker:So now he called all his people.
Speaker:He had to go back to his minions.
Speaker:He had to go back to his minions and say, okay,
Speaker:now let's try this again.
Speaker:So now that we're back at my initial verse
Speaker:and I've got the introduction out the way,
Speaker:we can get going.
Speaker:So now you need to understand
Speaker:that Pharaoh is after what has been conceived in you
Speaker:that you have given birth to that you want to see develop.
Speaker:You want to see it grow.
Speaker:You want to see it be nourished.
Speaker:You want to see it come to maturity.
Speaker:He wants to kill whatever that thing is.
Speaker:He will let you live,
Speaker:but he wants to kill the thing that gives you life.
Speaker:Because if he can kill the thing that gives you life,
Speaker:then he can even enslave God's people to build out his plan.
Speaker:He can make you so anxious, so depressed, so fearful,
Speaker:losing faith, become a doubter.
Speaker:He can put you in position where you're actually doing
Speaker:more harm to the kingdom than good
Speaker:because you're wondering, well, if I don't have this,
Speaker:what is it all for?
Speaker:And God must not be on my side.
Speaker:And God is not working it out for good.
Speaker:And God is not doing it.
Speaker:I thought the pastor said this.
Speaker:Maybe he's not.
Speaker:And if he can get believers to start talking like that,
Speaker:then he can have you enslaved
Speaker:even though you've been set free.
Speaker:That's why Galatians 5, 1 says it is for freedom
Speaker:that you have been set free.
Speaker:Therefore, never again return to the yoke of slavery,
Speaker:which means there's a yoke of slavery you can return to
Speaker:even if you've been set free.
Speaker:You say verses backwards, you'll get them.
Speaker:(congregation laughing)
Speaker:So he says, I know something's been conceived in you.
Speaker:And as soon as you deliver it,
Speaker:and your expectations are that you'll get to raise it
Speaker:and nurse it and develop it, oh, I'm coming for it.
Speaker:And this is now the start of the story
Speaker:where there's a lady who gives birth.
Speaker:In Exodus 2, 2, it simply reads,
Speaker:"The woman conceived in Bora's son."
Speaker:Ah, oh man.
Speaker:You know how people do the reveals?
Speaker:It's a girl, yeah, it's a boy, yeah.
Speaker:Not here.
Speaker:It's a girl, yeah, it's a boy, ah.
Speaker:Ah.
Speaker:Now, you can't read these stories like novels.
Speaker:You have to read them and put yourself in it.
Speaker:She has a baby and it's a boy.
Speaker:And she saw that he was beautiful, verse two,
Speaker:and hid him for three months.
Speaker:Can you imagine hiding a baby for three months?
Speaker:You gotta put yourself in there now.
Speaker:Shh, shh, shh, shh.
Speaker:That's nurse all the time, keep you quiet.
Speaker:I don't know what their diaper situation was,
Speaker:but probably wouldn't, you know.
Speaker:It's just a disaster.
Speaker:It's a disaster.
Speaker:She saw that the baby was beautiful.
Speaker:The word beautiful there means healthy,
Speaker:meaning, oh, this is great.
Speaker:But now I have to, since it's great,
Speaker:I'm gonna do what I can to protect it, okay?
Speaker:Many of you have beautiful things.
Speaker:You're excited about it, it's great.
Speaker:So now you put your hands on it
Speaker:to do what you can to protect it.
Speaker:Simple as that, that's what she's doing.
Speaker:Beautiful baby boy, I wanna protect him.
Speaker:I wanna make sure that the enemy does not get his hands
Speaker:on this thing, this person.
Speaker:And many of you have callings, destinies, purpose.
Speaker:You have families, you have children relationships,
Speaker:you have businesses, you have finances,
Speaker:you have things that you desperately want the enemy
Speaker:to keep his hands off of, is that correct?
Speaker:So what we do initially is we try to use our stamina,
Speaker:our relationships, our intellect,
Speaker:we try to use our finances, we try to use our wit,
Speaker:we try to use our whatever it is
Speaker:to try to keep the baby safe so that it doesn't come
Speaker:in contact with the enemy's plan.
Speaker:Am I right by saying that?
Speaker:Okay, this is what she was doing.
Speaker:And it's a disaster because it's very hard
Speaker:when Pharaoh has an edict out against you
Speaker:and you're doing what you can to keep the baby safe,
Speaker:whatever it is for you, it becomes a struggle.
Speaker:How do you know when Pharaoh was after your baby?
Speaker:Simple, your blessing starts turning into a burden.
Speaker:Have you ever had a blessing that starts becoming a burden?
Speaker:Your battle is not against flesh and blood.
Speaker:It's against the rulers, the principalities,
Speaker:the world forces of darkness, the spiritual forces
Speaker:of wickedness in heavenly places.
Speaker:The reason why your hands are burning is because Pharaoh's
Speaker:on the other end of the rope and you're playing tug of war
Speaker:in the spiritual realm trying to keep the baby safe
Speaker:through which there's gonna be a kingdom advancement.
Speaker:So that's why it's hard is because if you can picture
Speaker:Pharaoh doing this, trying to pull out of your hands
Speaker:what God has placed in your hands,
Speaker:that's why your hands are burning.
Speaker:So I need you to understand that for her,
Speaker:she got to a place where the blessing was now becoming
Speaker:a burden and it became hard to hold this precious baby.
Speaker:Verse three lets you know it says,
Speaker:but when she could no longer hide him.
Speaker:I don't know if you've ever gotten to a place
Speaker:where you told God, I just can't do it anymore.
Speaker:Some of us have gotten to a place in our marriages
Speaker:or with our wayward children or with our business
Speaker:trying to keep it together or our home or our school
Speaker:or our things that we're trying to put together.
Speaker:I can't do, I'm tired.
Speaker:Three months of keeping this baby quiet
Speaker:and Pharaoh's minions are everywhere.
Speaker:I'm tired, I can't do it anymore.
Speaker:So for any person in this room that has ever experienced
Speaker:being tired or you are tired or if you're not one of those
Speaker:two, you will be.
Speaker:'Cause trials in this world are like the mailbox
Speaker:that you get and your mailbox that says occupant.
Speaker:Translation, we don't care who lives here.
Speaker:You just have to be on earth and you gonna get some.
Speaker:You're about to learn a valuable lesson in surviving Pharaoh.
Speaker:She couldn't do it anymore.
Speaker:Time was up.
Speaker:Three months is a long time.
Speaker:You know how slow three months goes trying to hide a baby?
Speaker:It feels like forever and your hands are burning
Speaker:and cramping up trying to hold on with your own power.
Speaker:It says that she put the baby in a wicker basket,
Speaker:covered it with tar and pitch and placed it in the Nile.
Speaker:What?
Speaker:You gotta be at your wits end to put the baby
Speaker:in the Nile yourself.
Speaker:Now, if you've ever gotten to a place,
Speaker:ladies and gentlemen of Springhouse Church,
Speaker:where you begin to lose your mind trying to keep something
Speaker:safe or keep something healthy or keep something going,
Speaker:do you know why you're losing your mind?
Speaker:Because you just stepped into God territory.
Speaker:And once you step into God territory,
Speaker:you find out quickly you ain't him.
Speaker:So then you start to lose your mind to hold it yourself.
Speaker:When you're losing your mind,
Speaker:he's just allowing you to experience what's evident.
Speaker:That is that you have stepped into a territory
Speaker:that your humanity can't handle.
Speaker:And when you're handling things in the spiritual realm,
Speaker:you may have to go get the spiritual realm
Speaker:to help handle that thing.
Speaker:Because that is a realm that's too strong for your hands.
Speaker:And while Pharaoh's hands are stronger than your hands,
Speaker:God's hands are stronger than Pharaoh's hands.
Speaker:Matter of fact, God doesn't even have to use both.
Speaker:The Bible says the mighty right hand of God.
Speaker:He can just use one on Pharaoh, just.
Speaker:And so she realizes this is too big for me.
Speaker:I can't do it anymore.
Speaker:I can no longer hold on to this situation.
Speaker:I'm losing my mind, which is evident
Speaker:that I'm in God territory,
Speaker:and God will allow you to lose your mind
Speaker:so that you can come to the realization
Speaker:of how good at being God you are.
Speaker:Not that good.
Speaker:And then what do we do?
Speaker:We get to a place after, some of us, three years,
Speaker:some of us a decade, some of us three months,
Speaker:some of us figure it out quick.
Speaker:I've got to put this situation in a basket
Speaker:and put it in the Nile.
Speaker:This lady said, "God, I'm giving the baby to you.
Speaker:I can't do it anymore."
Speaker:I need you to know, Springhouse Church,
Speaker:this is very, you need to grab this,
Speaker:that your survival will not be contingent upon
Speaker:what you're able to hold onto.
Speaker:Your survival will be contingent upon
Speaker:what you're able to let go of.
Speaker:And if you're not willing to let go of it,
Speaker:then you won't experience God in your life
Speaker:who is able to do much more than what you can do
Speaker:keeping that thing in your hands.
Speaker:A lot of us think we're waiting on God,
Speaker:and God is saying, "No, I'm waiting on you,
Speaker:and I got more time than you, trust me."
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:She puts the baby in a wicker basket
Speaker:and places it in the Nile.
Speaker:Now, I know some of you scholars are thinking,
Speaker:"Now, how did you get she gave it to God
Speaker:by putting it in a basket and putting it in the Nile?"
Speaker:I'm glad you asked.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:Wicker basket in the Hebrew is translated ark.
Speaker:Y'all didn't get that?
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:The ark found in Genesis 6
Speaker:was used for the salvation of Noah's family.
Speaker:So he built the ark for purposes of salvation.
Speaker:So when she put the baby in the wicker basket,
Speaker:which is translated ark,
Speaker:she didn't put the baby in there for death,
Speaker:she put the baby in there for life.
Speaker:She had the full expectation
Speaker:that if I give this baby to the ark,
Speaker:if I place faith in the ark, Jesus Christ,
Speaker:then my life will be saved.
Speaker:So this wicker basket actually represents the ark,
Speaker:which represents Jesus Christ, who's our salvation.
Speaker:So she was fully expecting salvation
Speaker:by putting the baby in the ark.
Speaker:So she put it in the hands of God.
Speaker:She went to the prayer closet,
Speaker:she came to the church service,
Speaker:she had an expectation that if I go to God with my problem
Speaker:and put it in his hands and let it go out of my hands,
Speaker:that he can do a much better job in the basket
Speaker:than I can do in my hands.
Speaker:And so she's saying here, God's word is saying here,
Speaker:that you need to get ready, if you haven't gotten ready,
Speaker:and take that situation and put it in the hands of God.
Speaker:But not only did she put it in the wicker basket,
Speaker:it says she covered it with tar and pitch.
Speaker:Genesis 6, Genesis 6, the Bible says
Speaker:that the word of the Lord came to Noah and said,
Speaker:make yourself an ark, make yourself an ark of gopher wood,
Speaker:you shall cover it with tar and pitch.
Speaker:So then I had to look up pitch.
Speaker:Well, what's pitch?
Speaker:The Hebrew word for pitch is kefer.
Speaker:The root word of the Hebrew word means atonement.
Speaker:Oh my goodness.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:Atonement has to do with reconciliation,
Speaker:forgiveness of sins.
Speaker:So she had to repent.
Speaker:She had to say, it is actually sinful to trust me
Speaker:than it is to trust you.
Speaker:I repent, Lord, here's the situation.
Speaker:Let me reconcile my trust in you and my faith in you.
Speaker:How do you know if you trust God?
Speaker:I can tell by what you do.
Speaker:I can tell by whether you give him the baby or not.
Speaker:Anybody can say they believe until there's a baby
Speaker:that has to be given up.
Speaker:And once there's a baby that has to be given up,
Speaker:then all of a sudden, there's some reconciliation
Speaker:that needs to happen.
Speaker:And so she is in a repented state that,
Speaker:Lord, I am sorry that I thought more of my hands
Speaker:than I did of your hands.
Speaker:So let me reconcile, and how I reconcile
Speaker:is by giving my life away, giving my situation away,
Speaker:actually placing it in your hands.
Speaker:We walk by faith, not by sight.
Speaker:Faith is acting like it is so, even when it's not so,
Speaker:so that it might be so, simply because God said so.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:Faith is actionable.
Speaker:You can feel faith-ish and not have much faith.
Speaker:You can feel like you don't have a lot of faith
Speaker:and have a whole lot of faith,
Speaker:because faith has to do with your feet and your movement,
Speaker:not just your feelings.
Speaker:And here, she's reconciling with God
Speaker:because she's saying, I'm going to put it in the basket,
Speaker:I'm gonna cover it with tar and pitch
Speaker:so that it's sealed from the devastation of denial.
Speaker:Don't you know that if you're in Christ,
Speaker:the Bible says in Ephesians 1, 13,
Speaker:you are sealed by the Spirit.
Speaker:Don't you know that there is, Romans 8, 1,
Speaker:there is therefore no condemnation
Speaker:to those who are in Christ Jesus.
Speaker:So she's sealing it with the full expectations
Speaker:that the crocodiles won't be able to get through it.
Speaker:She's sealing it with the full expectation
Speaker:that even if I put my baby in the same scenario
Speaker:where everybody else is drowning,
Speaker:my baby will have destiny.
Speaker:The Nile was the place of devastation,
Speaker:but for her, it was the place of deliverance.
Speaker:The Nile was the place where everybody else was dying,
Speaker:but for her, it was the place where she would be surviving.
Speaker:Because in the hands of God,
Speaker:you can be in the same scenario
Speaker:where everybody else is getting destroyed
Speaker:and be experiencing victory.
Speaker:Here she is placing the baby, what we need to do.
Speaker:I'm giving it to the hands of God.
Speaker:Now notice, she doesn't put the baby in the Nile
Speaker:without a wicker basket.
Speaker:There's wicker basket, then Nile.
Speaker:Can't need you to understand this.
Speaker:If there's no wicker basket, you gonna be dead.
Speaker:You have to have the wicker basket,
Speaker:meaning the expectation of what you're letting go
Speaker:is that God will save it.
Speaker:I wanna make sure, Pastor Kevin,
Speaker:that nobody thinks that I'm saying,
Speaker:well great, I'm gonna let my marriage go.
Speaker:The pastor said I can let it go.
Speaker:I'm just gonna take this marriage like a football
Speaker:and punt it, boom.
Speaker:Oh no, that's not expectation of salvation.
Speaker:That's just selfish.
Speaker:No, he says wicker basket.
Speaker:If I'm letting it go, I'm letting it go
Speaker:for the purpose of salvation,
Speaker:that God will bring it back.
Speaker:Now, okay, here we go.
Speaker:Are y'all still with me?
Speaker:Here, you're tracking?
Speaker:Okay, so she does, remember, put yourself in the story.
Speaker:This is very difficult.
Speaker:A mother, you're talking about trusting God
Speaker:with your situation.
Speaker:She's trusting God with a literal baby.
Speaker:Whatever your situation is is hard, but it ain't like this.
Speaker:She's putting a baby with the crocodiles?
Speaker:That is a level of trust that we can only aspire to,
Speaker:but that's the level of trust that God deserves.
Speaker:She puts the baby in the now, now.
Speaker:Verse four says, "His sister stood at a distance
Speaker:"to find out what would happen to him."
Speaker:So this is Moses' sister Miriam.
Speaker:Moses' sister Miriam is watching this like,
Speaker:"Oh my goodness, this is terrible."
Speaker:She's watching her mother's faith.
Speaker:And at first, it's scary to watch the generation before you
Speaker:or your parents show faith and just give things to God.
Speaker:You're thinking to yourself, "You've lost your mind."
Speaker:But this little girl is watching her mother's faith, okay?
Speaker:I need you to remember that and lock that
Speaker:in the back of your mind, okay?
Speaker:She's watching her mother's faith.
Speaker:At the moment that Moses' mother puts him in the Nile,
Speaker:watch what happens.
Speaker:Verse five, "The daughter of Pharaoh came down
Speaker:"to bathe in the Nile with her maidens
Speaker:"walking along the Nile and she saw the basket
Speaker:"among the reeds and said to her maid
Speaker:"to bring it over and sent her maid to go get it
Speaker:"and she brought it to her."
Speaker:So when Moses' mother puts the baby in the Nile,
Speaker:by luck and chance,
Speaker:Pharaoh's daughter decides she stinks
Speaker:and wants to come take a bath in the Nile.
Speaker:I need to go take a bath at the moment
Speaker:Moses' mother puts the baby in the Nile
Speaker:because God's not doing anything.
Speaker:It's just all happenstance and luck.
Speaker:And Pharaoh, as the story goes,
Speaker:Pharaoh's daughter says, "Hey, go get that basket."
Speaker:The basket comes over, it's a baby,
Speaker:and she says, "Oh my goodness, coochie, coochie, coo."
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:This is all luck and chance that Pharaoh loves,
Speaker:Pharaoh's daughter loves babies.
Speaker:She knows it's a Hebrew boy,
Speaker:but she doesn't care 'cause she just felt pity in her heart.
Speaker:It's just kind of a thing that happened.
Speaker:But I want you to notice that now Moses is taken out,
Speaker:but God's sovereignty would only pick up what she put down.
Speaker:If she doesn't put it down,
Speaker:then Pharaoh finds that boy a different way.
Speaker:When she puts it down,
Speaker:then God's sovereignty comes and picks him up.
Speaker:God's sovereignty is waiting on you to put it down.
Speaker:(humming)
Speaker:Because he has a plan.
Speaker:He's waiting on you to stop doing his job.
Speaker:Pharaoh's daughter, shoop, picks the baby up,
Speaker:and she says, "Coochie, coochie, coo."
Speaker:And then watch this.
Speaker:Remember that thing I told you to put
Speaker:in the back of your head?
Speaker:What'd I tell you to put in the back of your head?
Speaker:You don't remember.
Speaker:(audience murmuring)
Speaker:Miriam, Miriam was watching.
Speaker:So at first she's nervous,
Speaker:but she's also watching everything
Speaker:that I just told you play out.
Speaker:Pharaoh's daughter pick it up,
Speaker:she's watching the maid go get it,
Speaker:she's watching Pharaoh's daughter say, "Coochie, coochie, coo."
Speaker:And now she's watching her mother's faith play out.
Speaker:See, when you give your things to the Lord parents,
Speaker:your children's get to watch God work in your life.
Speaker:They get to watch it play out.
Speaker:And when they're able to watch faith work,
Speaker:then they know faith works.
Speaker:But we talk a lot in church,
Speaker:but nobody's trusting God,
Speaker:and so they're out there in the culture
Speaker:just trying to figure it out on social media
Speaker:like everybody else,
Speaker:because they've never seen their parents
Speaker:put it in the Nile.
Speaker:And here Miriam is watching coochie, coochie, coo.
Speaker:She's watching Pharaoh's daughter do all these things.
Speaker:She's watching this play out,
Speaker:she's like, "Immediately,
Speaker:the boy is not even in the Nile anymore, he's out."
Speaker:So now her faith is conjured up
Speaker:and she wants to be a part of God's plan.
Speaker:Watch this, verse seven,
Speaker:"Then his sister," Miriam,
Speaker:"said to Pharaoh's daughter,
Speaker:shall I go and call a nurse from you from the Hebrew women
Speaker:so that she may nurse the child for you?"
Speaker:Y'all ain't, come on, Springhouse.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:Miriam's, it's a little girl.
Speaker:Now you gotta understand, her faith is conjured up
Speaker:because she's seeing God work.
Speaker:You can't just go up to Pharaoh's daughter.
Speaker:That's not how this works.
Speaker:They can have you killed, you're supposed to be a slave.
Speaker:If she's going up to Pharaoh's daughter,
Speaker:that means her faith in God has been conjured up.
Speaker:She is no longer afraid.
Speaker:She know this God thing works.
Speaker:So she's coming against the culture now at a young age.
Speaker:Young people, you don't have to wait till you're old.
Speaker:God can use you when you're young.
Speaker:And so she comes, y'all still with me, y'all getting tired?
Speaker:Okay, so she comes up to Pharaoh's daughter and says,
Speaker:"Listen here, I got an idea.
Speaker:You like the baby, right?"
Speaker:"Yes, oh coochie, coochie, coo."
Speaker:I saw you doing that.
Speaker:I think it's a great idea, since you like the baby,
Speaker:you don't want them to go hungry.
Speaker:I can go get a Hebrew woman
Speaker:to nurse the baby for you.
Speaker:You know what Pharaoh's daughter's response was?
Speaker:That's a great idea.
Speaker:I would love that, that's awesome.
Speaker:Let's do that, that's a great idea.
Speaker:Little did Pharaoh's daughter understand
Speaker:that Miriam was just gonna take the baby back to the mother.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:She says, in verse eight, Pharaoh's daughter said to her,
Speaker:"Go ahead," so the girl went and called the child's mother.
Speaker:Ooh!
Speaker:You got to be kidding me!
Speaker:That child said, "I love this, let's go.
Speaker:Hey, I got an idea, let's do this."
Speaker:Pharaoh's daughter, not knowing she's being used by God,
Speaker:is about to give the baby right back to the mother
Speaker:against the edict of her own father.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:I need you to understand that a boomerang
Speaker:only comes back when you let it go.
Speaker:That God is trying to return to you
Speaker:the very thing that you have to trust Him to put down.
Speaker:And He's going to work, the providence of God,
Speaker:He's gonna work out the details
Speaker:and bring that thing right back around.
Speaker:But not only is He gonna bring it around,
Speaker:you're talking about God.
Speaker:Okay, Springhouse, this is God we're talking about.
Speaker:He don't just do the normal.
Speaker:Okay, y'all don't know the story,
Speaker:so let me show you how to, okay, let me read this to you.
Speaker:You're gonna trip out, you're gonna trip out.
Speaker:Okay, here it goes.
Speaker:Pharaoh's daughter said, "Go, go get the mother,"
Speaker:she didn't say go get the mother,
Speaker:but go ahead, go get the Hebrew woman.
Speaker:So the girl went and got the child's mother.
Speaker:Then Pharaoh's daughter said to the child's mother,
Speaker:"Take this child away and nurse him for me
Speaker:"and I will give you wages."
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:So the woman took the child and nursed him.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:She got paid to nurse her own baby.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:'Cause you need to understand
Speaker:that God can do exceedingly, abundantly, beyond
Speaker:all that you can ask or think.
Speaker:(audience applauding)
Speaker:Watch this.
Speaker:According to the power that works in you.
Speaker:Everybody jumps over pews
Speaker:with the first part of Ephesians 3.20.
Speaker:They forget the last part.
Speaker:He can do exceedingly, abundantly, beyond
Speaker:all that you can ask or think
Speaker:according to the power that works in you.
Speaker:So if you're experiencing a little bit of God,
Speaker:he's saying, well, I'm experiencing a little bit of you.
Speaker:(audience gasping)
Speaker:Because when God's sovereignty picks something up,
Speaker:she got paid to do what she would have done for free.
Speaker:(audience laughing)
Speaker:You got to be kidding me.
Speaker:And this all came from one point and one concept.
Speaker:Let it go.
Speaker:(audience applauding)
Speaker:(audience cheering)
Speaker:[APPLAUSE]
